Hi everybody,

I hope you've had a great summer and are ready to get back to karate training. The new term is coming up soon, with the first class on Thursday 8 September.

There are some exciting changes to the family program this year. We're switching from 3 terms to 2 longer terms. The fall term runs from September 8 through 26 January, and the winter term runs from 2 February to 14 June. We will be moving the gradings out of the regular class time, scheduling them for the Saturday following the final class of the term. The longer terms will enable us to provide students with more preparation prior to gradings and the dedicated gradings will help us to better evaluate students who are moving up to a new rank. I'll have more information about the grading format during class later this term.

During the last few terms, our family class has had so many students that space was getting tight and we were beginning to look at limiting enrollment. Instead, we've decided to add a separate introductory class for new students. This class will be entirely focused on new karateka, enabling the instructors to give our new students more attention and care. Students will be eligible to move into the regular family class after successfully completing the introductory course. The introductory class will run on Thursdays, from 5:40 to 6:25, prior to the regular family class. As always, children must be at least 6 years old before enrolling and parents are welcome to participate. The regular family class still runs from 6:30 to 7:30. The longer term and introductory course entail some changes to our fee structure. The family class is now $100/student for the term. The introductory class is $75/student for the term.

Our annual tournament is booked for Saturday 12 November, at Central Memorial High. Be sure to save the date. It's always a busy and exciting day.

Registration for the fall term will be prior to the first class, from 5:30, at our dojo in Christ Church. Please make cheques payable to "GKC". We'll be issuing hand-written receipts for the childrens' fitness tax credit during registration. New students, please show up at the registration night on Thursday.
