Information about Fall 2015 Classes

Post date: Aug 21, 2015 12:32:02 AM

Hi karate-ka,

Summer's almost over and it's time to start thinking about karate.  There's lots of news.  In addition to the family class, we're starting an advanced class for higher ranking students.  Sensei Ron Mattie is returning to Calgary for his 5th annual seminar weekend, on Sept 25 and 26.  And our tournament is coming up in November.

The church has been renovating the gym since June and it's not quite done. So we'll be starting the fall term a little later this year.  The new term begins on Thursday 17 September.  As usual, the family class runs from 6:30 to 7:30.

I'm excited to announce the new advanced class.  We've struggled to give our advanced students sufficient challenge in the family class, so we're adding another hour of training for them each week. I was impressed at the response from the students who came out to our sessions last spring.  Sensei Sean will be teaching this class on Sundays from 6-7.  Advanced students should also be attending the regular family class, to get 2 hours of training each week (which builds toward the 4 hours per week in the adult class).

The fall term runs from September 17 through 28 January, with a break over Christmas. The winter term runs until mid-June.  I've posted details on the website calendar (http://www.glamorganwadokai.com/home/calendar).  The price for the family class remains at $100 for a term.   The advanced class costs $125 per term.

Registration for the fall term will be prior to the first class, from 6:30, at our dojo in Christ Church. Please make cheques payable to "GKC". We'll be issuing hand-written receipts for the childrens' fitness tax credit during registration. New students, please show up at the registration night on Thursday wearing loose workout clothing.

Sensei Ron Mattie, 8th degree black belt and head instructor of Shintani Wado Kai, is returning for another weekend of kumite and kata clinics on September 25 and 26.  The clinic is open to all ranks.  I strongly encourage everyone to attend.  Sensei Kevin was taught by Sensei Ron for four years while he was on the national team.  Sensei Kevin has very fond memories of working with Sensei Ron. Sensei Ron loves to teach all ranks and would really like to see you out. It will be valuable training, help you with the requirements for your next grading and be a lot of fun.  Details are available on our website calendar.

See you soon,

Sensei John
